Volunteering For All Things Pups Rescue

We are always looking for people who can help us save the lives of more dogs. If you love animals and would like to help out in ways other than fostering, please read below to learn about volunteer opportunities.

What types of volunteer opportunities are available?

Intake Volunteer

Animal intake takes place at our headquarters in San Diego. As an Intake Volunteer, you help with animals entering All Things Pups Rescue. You help the animals through the entire intake process which includes them getting vetted by our staff, photographed, bathed and all ready to go to their foster homes. Intake occurs a couple times each week, typically on Saturday and Sunday. The usual time required is around 5-6 hours.

Office Hours Volunteer

Office hours take place at our headquarters in San Diego. As an Office Hours Volunteer, you will be present at the office as a resource to people who visit us. Visitors often arrive to pick up their foster animal or ask for supplies for their foster animal. We prefer people commit to a block of time to be able to perform on the same day and time each week. During this time your shift may include cleaning and organizing the office, doing laundry, helping with drop-offs, letting out the dogs and monitoring their play in the play yards. There are always plenty of activities to work on while at the office! Office Hour shifts are 2-4 hours.

Let Out Volunteer

Let Outs take place at our headquarters in San Diego. Let Out Volunteers are responsible for caring for the animals in the office at specific times throughout the day. Let Out responsibilities include taking dogs out for potty and a walk, giving the dogs food, water and any necessary medications, and cleaning up the crate areas when needed. Let out times vary, but 10-15 minute walks per dog is preferred.

Home Visit Volunteer

Home Visits take place in several locations, but you would be contacted specifically about the area of your choice as opportunities arise. As a Home Visit Volunteer, you are contacted to perform home visits for potential fosters and adopters. We provide a checklist for you to complete when visiting the residence. You choose which locations work best for you to perform a home visit. Home visits take about an hour (to answer questions of the new foster home), plus travel time.

Transport Volunteer

Transports are available in various locations across Southern California. As a Transport Volunteer you help us by transporting animals primarily for intake. All Things Pups Rescue visits high kill shelters in Southern California multiple times a week. We often need help transferring multiple dogs from the shelters, to and from our vets, fosters, etc. If you join our transportation team, you will be the reason some of our pups with medical needs will get the care they deserve! This would be primarily on the weekend but can sometimes occur during the week as well. Transports can be anywhere in Southern California, so times vary depending on location. You can also help by providing transport of an animal from their foster home to vet appointments, or from various locations across Southern California to our headquarters in San Diego.

Fundraising Volunteer

If you are interested in helping us reach out to corporations, local businesses, and anywhere and everywhere in between, we appreciate all of the help that we can get.

If you have any other talents that you think would be helpful to All Things Pups Rescue, please email info@allthingspupsrescue.org.

Volunteering FAQs

How old do I need to be in order to volunteer?

Intake/Home Visits – Must be 18 years of age or older.

Let Outs/Office Hours – At age 15 you can assist with let outs and office, ages 18+ can volunteer alone.

Transport – Ages 12+ can volunteer with a parent/guardian, and ages 18+ can volunteer alone.

Can my child volunteer?

Children 15+ are more than welcome to walk dogs alone, as long as they and a parent have signed a Volunteer Release of Liability form for minors. Children under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times and the adult is responsible for leash handling. Children under 15 are also welcome to play with the dogs off leash in a designated area.

If I don't have experience can I still volunteer?

Yes, of course! All volunteers go through a shadow shift, during which they are paired with a more experienced volunteer who can show them the ropes. Volunteers are welcome to shadow others until they are comfortable on their own. Additionally, we offer training workshops monthly for volunteers who are interested in building their handling skills.
